The Annual Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive in NYC (BBASI NY) is designed to provide expert training for serious ballet students (ages 15+) through unique instruction under Master Teachers from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. BBASI is a rigorous ballet training program, conducted in Russian language with assistance of English speaking translators, designed to offer pre-professional ballet training through 1) class instruction, 2) performances, and 3) other activities at locations on and off campus (please review sample schedules for more details). The program is specifically designed to achieve individual progress in ballet training through a focus on the clarity of technique, increased strength and greater musicality. BBASI NY offers both a residency and a day program (day students will be limited in the non-ballet training activities they will be able to participate in).

Classes are conducted in groups and organized by participants’ age and skill levels, as demonstrated during the audition process. A participant’s level placement may be adjusted during the first few days of each session, at the exclusive discretion of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy Master Teachers. At the conclusion of the Program all participants will receive an assessment of their progress and advice for furthering their training by the Master Teachers.

A Class Observation Day will be held at the conclusion of the first three weeks of the program. A Final Performance will give participants enrolled in the six-week and the second three-week sessions the opportunity to showcase the repertoire acquired during BBASI.

While the program has adult chaperons for supervision of group activities, students are not supervised individually.

Interested participants will have the unique opportunity to audition for enrollment in the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow. Furthermore, one Female and one Male participant, enrolled in a six-week session of the Summer Intensive, will be selected for a RAF Performing Scholarship in Moscow which will enable them to perform at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy’s Gala Performance in Moscow!

(*1st Place Male and Female Winner will be provided with visa support, air travel, accommodation and training at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy)
(**2nd Place Male and Female Winner assumes all costs associated with the travel)

Curriculum and Levels

BBASI’s NYC Program is for the Advanced-Level Male and Female dancers. The participants applying to this program should be mature, focused, and able to engage in independent time outside of class with fewer organized activities. Nevertheless, an evening curfew, class attendance, healthy eating and lifestyle, and other rules will be strictly enforced by the chaperones and program staff (those who are 18 and over will have modified rules and regulations). At the Advanced Levels, Female and Male dancers will have separate classes as stated below.
