Check back soon for Summer 2015 dates!
The Annual Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive in NYC (BBASI NY) is designed to provide expert training for serious ballet students (ages 15+) through unique instruction under Master Teachers from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. BBASI is a rigorous ballet training program, conducted in Russian language with assistance of English speaking translators, designed to offer pre-professional ballet training through 1) class instruction, 2) performances, and 3) other activities at locations on and off campus (please review sample schedules for more details). The program is specifically designed to achieve individual progress in ballet training through a focus on the clarity of technique, increased strength and greater musicality. BBASI NY offers both a residency and a day program (day students will be limited in the non-ballet training activities they will be able to participate in).
Classes are conducted in groups and organized by participants’ age and skill levels, as demonstrated during the audition process. A participant’s level placement may be adjusted during the first few days of each session, at the exclusive discretion of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy Master Teachers. At the conclusion of the Program all participants will receive an assessment of their progress and advice for furthering their training by the Master Teachers.
A Class Observation Day will be held at the conclusion of the first three weeks of the program. A Final Performance will give participants enrolled in the six-week and the second three-week sessions the opportunity to showcase the repertoire acquired during BBASI. While all participants will be featured, the extent of one’s participation in the performance may be based, in part, on merit, student’s participation in class throughout the program, and artistic decisions involved in the performance’s planning.
While the program has adult chaperones for supervision of group activities, students are not supervised individually.
Interested participants will have the unique opportunity to audition for enrollment in the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow. Furthermore, one Female and one Male participant, enrolled in a six-week session of the Summer Intensive, will be selected for a RAF Performing Scholarship in Moscow which will enable them to perform at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy’s Gala Performance in Moscow!
(*1st Place Male and Female Winner will be provided with visa support, economy air travel from NYC to Moscow and back, accommodations at the Academy, and training at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy)
(**2nd Place Male and Female Winner assumes all costs associated with the travel)
The Annual Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive Program is a partnership between the New York-based Russian American Foundation (“RAF”) and Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet Academy (“Academy”). BBASI is operated in the United States by RAF, based on the ballet curriculum designed by the Academy, and taught exclusively by its ballet Master Teachers. Unless otherwise expressly stated, the RAF has no affiliation or responsibility for other programs operated or sponsored by the Academy in Russia or other parts of the world.

Curriculum and Levels
BBASI’s NYC Program is for the Advanced-Level Male and Female dancers. The participants applying to this program should be mature, focused, and able to engage in independent time outside of class with fewer organized activities. While some organized activities will be offered, the schedule outside of class is open so that participants may enjoy New York City independently. Nevertheless, an evening curfew, class attendance, healthy eating and lifestyle, and other rules will be strictly enforced by the chaperones and program staff (those who are 18 and over will have modified rules and regulations).
Intermediate / Advanced and Advanced Levels – Female Dancers* (15 and older)
**THE SCHEDULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE**
July 4: When July 4 is a week day, regular class schedule applies.
Weekends: No ballet classes or private lessons are running on the weekends. Schedules for extracurricular activities start a half hour later. Private classes are available for an additional cost only on the weekdays after dance classes have finished.

Location – Lincoln Center Area of Manhattan, NYC
Advanced students (15+ ) will have the opportunity to study ballet in the one and only New York City! BBASI studios are located in Manhattan’s beautiful Upper West Side.
While some activities will be provided, students will have more flexibility in their schedule, so that they may enjoy New York City independently. This program is ideal for older students who are comfortable navigating a major city, are independent, mature, and are excited about having more personal time in lieu of planned activities.
Classes will be held in the following locations*:
The Juilliard School
60 Lincoln Center Plaza
David H. Koch Theater
20 Lincoln Center
The LaGuardia School
100 Amsterdam Avenue (*This activity is not sponsored or endorsed by the NYC Department of Education of the City of New York)

Housing in New York
The following options are offered by BBASI (Families are welcome to select their own housing options as well):
YESHIVA UNIVERSITY/ Beren Campus Residence will be available to the participants under 18 y.o. only. This residence is centrally located in a residential neighborhood of Mid-town East Side at 151 East 36 Street. It is an inviting, renovated and modern facility which consists of air-conditioned single rooms (some double rooms may be available), two community lounges, a private outdoor garden and a laundry room. TV will be available in the common lounges. Each room is equipped with a small refrigerator, a microwave, desk and chair, a small dresser, closet space, wifi. NO BEDDING will be provided, residents must bring their own. Each floor has common bathroom/ shower area. The building has 24-hour on-site security along with full-time chaperons residing on each floor. The facility will be occupied exclusively by the BBASI participants and will serve as the Program’s flagship home. This dorm is located within a few blocks of a major movie theater, shopping, restaurants, supermarkets and all of the main subways. Due to our commitment to keeping the program costs low, we no longer offer such organized weekend activity as a Ballet/ Broadway performance for BBASI NYC resident participants. Instead, we plan on organizing more community building events and activities at the Yeshiva/ Beren Campus Residence throughout the program, such as: social games night, movie nights, sessions parties.
STRATFORD ARMS Residence, an AMDA Residence, is located in the residential neighborhood of the Upper West Side at 117 West 70th Street. All participants aged 18 years and older will be required to live in this dorm and will not be chaperoned (Participants will still be required to comply with any/all AMDA Residency Rules and Regulations and BBASI overall program rules). This residence is located in an area that has long been a center for the arts; countless museums, Broadway theatres, and Lincoln Center for performances of Ballet, Opera, and Symphony are all nearby. The double and single rooms are all air-conditioned, include refrigerators, and have shared bathrooms as well as common bathrooms. A kitchen, TV lounge, and a computer lab are located on the first floor of the dorm with an outdoor deck. The building has 24-hour on-site security along with full-time chaperones residing on each floor. Students may be placed on the same floor with other students of AMDA. *Space at this facility is limited and is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis / no residents under the age of 16 are allowed. Please note that a selection of this option at registration does not guarantee placement until a confirmation is received.
NEW FEATURE FOR NYC HOUSING: New York program participants 18 years and older will be offered housing options that are not chaperoned by the BBASI chaperones. Every participant will still be required to adhere to all residence rules and policies as well as observe the BBASI NYC program code of conduct.
Note: Meals and meal plans are not included in the tuition cost. Students will have access to the Juilliard cafeteria, countless neighboring cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores. Transportation costs are also not included in the cost of tuition.

The Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive is a small program which offers its participants a one of a kind, unparalleled training and cross-cultural opportunity with the Master Teachers of the Bolshoi Academy who have trained and continue to train some of the biggest stars on the world’s ballet stages. Because of our commitment to small classes and the high caliber of the program, the Russian American Foundation is able to offer only a small number of scholarship opportunities, as follows:
- MERIT-BASED FOR EXTRAORDINARY TALENT – RAF recognizes the enormous talent and dedication of many students interested in its program. Due to RAF’s desire for the most impartial award process, please note that RAF awards merit-based scholarships through the Youth America Grand Prix Competition. For further information and registration please visit YAGP.org. In a rare instance, RAF does reserve its right to award merit-based scholarships to students participating in its live national auditions. Such awards are by invitation only.
- NEED-BASED FOR EXTRAORDINARY TALENT – RAF recognizes that, in some cases, talented students are prohibited from participating due to financial constraints. In such cases, after receiving an Acceptance Letter, RAF suggests that families contact the BBASI program. Please be advised that any request for financial aid must be accompanied by two (2) most recent official and filed Tax Returns. If you feel appropriate to submit an additional narrative, please ensure that it is no longer than one page. Please do not submit W-2 or 1099 forms.
