Prep pic_website_aboutThe annual BOLSHOI PREP summer intensive in NYC  is designed to provide expert training for serious ballet students (ages 9-14) through unique instruction with leading teachers from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. BOLSHOI PREP is a rigorous ballet training program, conducted in Russian language with the assistance of English-speaking translators (review sample schedule for details). The Program is specifically designed to achieve individual progress through a focus on the clarity of technique, increased strength, and greater musicality. BOLSHOI PREP is well suited for younger dancers desiring the unmatched training opportunity with Bolshoi Ballet Academy Teachers, but who are not yet ready for the BBASI CT residential program.

Bolshoi Prep

BOLSHOI PREP is offered only as a day program option (*Limited housing option may be offered to students accompanied by parents fulltime). The Program will take place in Manhattan, NYC in the Upper East Side neighborhood. The students will be required to bring their own snacks/lunch to sustain them throughout the day.

Some may wonder what the central differences are between BOLSHOI PREP and BBASI CT. BOLSHOI PREP was specifically created to give tri-state ballet families, many of whom do not have the option of attending a program in CT, an opportunity to train with Bolshoi Ballet Academy Teachers. The Program is also a suitable entry point for students who are strong and serious dancers, but who have not been substantially exposed to Bolshoi’s rigorous training or Vaganova technique. While BOLSHOI PREP is a smaller program, there are no differences in the ballet curriculum between BBASI CT and BOLSHOI PREP. Both are taught by leading Academy Teachers and the curriculum is designed by the Dean of the Academy, Ms. Leonova. In BOLSHOI PREP males and females have most classes jointly. For Summer 2019, a separate MALE REPERTOIRE class will be offered. In BBASI CT, males have some classes separately from females. The main difference between the two programs is in the non-core extracurricular options. BBASI CT is structured as a comprehensive cultural and summer experience. The BOLSHOI PREP is structured strictly as a day program which only offers ballet classes.* Please click here to learn more about the differences between BBASI CT and Bolshoi PREP.

Prep Photo 4_jpegThe participants applying to this Program should be focused on achieving individual progress and willing to work hard to obtain it. Having said that, the overall environment of BOLSHOI PREP is non-competitive and a strong emphasis is made on teamwork, respect, and building friendships that last a lifetime.

Curriculum and Levels

BOLSHOI PREPPhoto_girls jumping is open to females and males, ages 9-14 years. Participants must have prior ballet training to be considered for the program. Ballet classes are conducted in groups and organized by participants’ age and skill levels, as demonstrated during the audition process. Training is conducted through individual participation, observation, interactive participation with other participants, and manual/hands-on corrections and demonstrations by Academy’s Teachers.  RAF’s audition process, and/or past enrollment of a Participant in RAF’s programs, serves only as a limited indicator of Participant’s preparedness for the Program and/or group placement. Participant’s level placement may be adjusted during the first few days at the exclusive discretion of the Program. At the conclusion of the Program, all participants will receive an assessment of their progress from the Academy’s Teachers. A Class Observation Day will be held at the conclusion of each three week session.

9457510459_d29e569852_zCurriculum will be comprised of:

  •   Classical Technique

BBASI 2019 Audition Information Coming Soon

BBASI auditions are a great opportunity for dancers and families to meet Program staff *, learn about the different programs, and ask questions.  The auditions are similar to the BBASI Program in that they tend to be challenging, but are non-competitive in their environment.  Dancers should treat the audition as a class and try their individual best.  BBASI staff respects that dancers come from different training backgrounds, are on different levels, and are of varying ages.  Each dancer is evaluated within the context of his/her individual abilities, and with the goal of ensuring that they can obtain progress through the program.  Successful BBASI candidates demonstrate: age appropriate skill and coordination, musicality, commitment to achieving progress through hard work and dedication, and appreciation for a collaborative and non-competitive environment.
* While during BBASI all Program classes are taught by Bolshoi Ballet Academy's Teachers, please note that as the Academy is in session during the Auditions Period, local teachers are used for the Auditions.
PLEASE BE GUIDED BY YOUR AGE AT THE START OF THE PROGRAM TO SELECT THE APPROPRIATE AGE GROUP FOR YOUR AUDITION. Online pre-registration audition fee is $35/ on-site audition fee** is $40 (cash or check only).
